THE HISTORY
Innovation Through Heritage:
Modernising Age-old Traditional Chinese Medicine Practice
The Gin Seng Formula, a trusted brand specially created by its 79-year-old Singaporean founder Dr. Tian Ren Sen, draws on over 35 years of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) clinical experience and observations.
The ‘仁森’ brand is pronounced Gin Seng in Teochew as Dr. Tian’s hometown is Swatow in China, a prefecture with a mainly Teochew-speaking populace. The Gin Seng Formula brand comprises The Essential Essence (舒筋精) and Shu Jing Huo Luo You (舒筋活络油).

Dr. Tian has had a long and illustrious career in TCM. He has made a name for himself among the local community in dedicating his life to TCM practice and research.
Dr. Tian graduated from the Singapore College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 1982. In 2003, he obtained a master’s degree in orthopaedics from Guangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (formerly Guangxi College of Traditional Chinese Medicine), where he was highly lauded for his master’s thesis. Subsequently, he was specially hired as a visiting expert of the China Guangxi International Manipulative Medicine Association.
In 2009, Dr. Tian was admitted to the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology of Fujian University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (formerly Fujian University of Traditional Chinese Medicine). His doctoral dissertation on The Essential Essence, which details the product’s usage and efficacy, was highly commended by the university.
Dr. Tian has carried out TCM clinical work for close to 40 years and has accumulated rich clinical experience. Apart from local patients of all walks of life, Dr. Tian treats patients from a vast number of countries including Australia, Canada, Indonesia, Malaysia, New Zealand, and the United States.
Basing his clinical work on TCM’s treatment philosophy, Dr. Tian at the same time utilizes modern technology and explores related scientific research topics. This three-fold methodology is instrumental in Dr. Tian successfully developing innovative approaches to diagnosing and treating bone, joint and spinal diseases, soft tissue injuries, and intractable orthopedic conditions. Dr. Tian also wrote several papers of significant innovative and practical value. These papers are not only presented in Singapore, but also exchanged and published in international academic conferences held in countries such as China, Malaysia, Singapore, Spain and Taiwan.
Dr. Tian is a qualified and registered TCM practitioner in Singapore, and is a member of the Singapore Chinese Physicians’ Association (SCPA). He was the research director of SCPA’s research council from 2005 to 2019.

“Dr. Tian Ren Sen is a person who is respectful and filial, respects his elders, is willing to help others, and is benevolent towards his patients. He is constantly striving to improve his clinical practice so as to diagnose and treat patients with good medical skills. He is rewarded with praise and appreciation from his patients. He has a tireless attitude to seeking new knowledge and academic advancement. He has written many good papers and has received much attention and praise from his colleagues in the TCM profession. I am honoured to be invited to write the preface for his Ph.D. thesis.”
